Save money by saving gas

The price of gas has become increasingly ridiculous. There’s no doubt that it will maintain to increase without the limit in sight! For new owners of cars, did you know that a gallon of unleaded gas cost only $1.25 before? Consequently, it becomes increasingly important to get the full value of your money at the gas station.

Here are some tips to get the most out of your money at the gas station.

Tip #1: Use a special credit card for buying gas.
There are many gas credit cards that let you save cents for every gallon or liter that you purchase. These credit cards are great!

Tip #2: Compare prices.
You can use this tip for anything you can imagine. Always look around for the best deal. You may be able to get a cheap price for the brand that you like, but there may be an even cheaper brand.

Tip #3: Don’t always top off.
When you are buying gas at the gas station, the gas pump will need time to draw out the right amount of gas, causing you to get short little bursts of fuel that you are paying extra for. The best time to fill up your gas tank is when there is a very low price that you can’t afford to miss, or when you have less than half a tank left.

Tip #4: Don’t be lazy, pump your own gas!
It is much cheaper to fill your own tank at a self-serve station than using the full-serve stations. Gas stations that are full-serve usually costs more.

Tip #5: The best time to buy gas is when the weather is cool.
During cooler temperatures, such as in the morning or night, gas is denser. The gas stations don’t measure by density, but they measure by volume, so you’ll be getting more fuel than vapours, which improves your gas mileage greatly.

Tip #6: Gas stations that just refilled their tanks must be avoided.
Particles at the bottom of underground tanks are stirred up when they are being refilled. This causes the particles to get into your fuel tank, which causes a decrease in fuel efficiency of your car.

Tip #7: High Octane Gas is a no-no.
The majority of new cars are built to function on unleaded regular gas. It is a waste of money to buy higher octane gas than your car needs. The octane doesn’t describe the quality of the gas, but how hard it is to ignite the gas. Buying a higher octane gas won’t improve the efficiency of your car and the only time you should do so is if your engine rattles, pings or knocks.

Tip #8: Buy cars that are fuel efficient.
This is the best tip regarding saving money at the gas station. By buying cars with good gas mileage, you save more money by using less gas. Make sure you check with your car dealer and let them show you which cars have the best fuel economy.

Tip #9: Turn off the air conditioner!
This is rather simple. Air conditioning wastes a lot of energy, and can reduce the fuel economy of your car greatly. It is a lot better to use an air ventilation system instead.

Tip #10: Know where you’re going.
You can avoid useless driving by making sure what you need to do and where you’re going before hand, and naturally, that will save you money on the gas consumption.
